Chester

September 23, 2012

I will be using this blog to document the progress and improvement of our newly adopted (rescued) 5-yr-old Golden Retriever, Chester.

Chester was in an abused situation for years (puppy mill) and will require months if not years of rehabilitation. When we met him yesterday we fell in love with him. He doesn't smile, wag his tail or follow us around. He doesn't run and play with toys or balls yet. He doesn't sit or know basic obedience commands and we won't even deal with that until he's adjusted to just being part of our family. Chester very intently watches our interaction with Casey, our female Golden. Over time he'll learn from watching and listening. Casey checks on him occasionally and tries to encourage him, but she's not pushy and then leaves him to his corner. He lays in a corner nearby watching but doesn't participate. He loved the ride in the car here with Casey, but isn't keen on getting out into new surroundings.

So far his favorite places are near my feet by the computer desk (in a corner) ... against a wall by my chair in the basement family room ... last night he found his own way into Casey's old kennel to sleep on the comfy dog bed (door open) in my bedroom.

Better things to come for Chester ... he just doesn't know it yet :-)
