Day One ... adoption

September 22, 2012

Well, we did it. Adopted a 5-yr-old Golden Retriever who really needed a special kind of permanent home. He was an abused and starved puppy mill dog who is sweet and gentle only because of his foster family.

We obtained Chester from Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon. They are a volunteer group of people based in the Portland, OR area who rescue, foster and find permanent homes for Golden Retrievers throughout the Pacific Northwest. Here's their website if you think you might be interested in adopting. http://www.goldenbondrescue.com

But if you haven't ever had a rescue dog, you might want to read some of my blog first, or the book that I'm writing ... Chester's Tales. This blog contains portions of the book and is copyrighted

Chester is scared of any unfamiliar noises and his comfort zone is under my computer desk by my feet, or in a corner where he can see what goes on around him. It will take time and patience (and Casey's help) to continue to teach him how to be a family dog.

Note: Casey is our 16 month old Golden Retriever, who we've had since she was weaned. All she knows is love and food and toys whenever she needs it. Chester wasn't so lucky and this is his story.
